Good Days, Bad Days

"Can we have a world without any bad people? Can we have a world in which nothing bad happens? A world in which there is no sorrow?" I asked my students.

A girl raise her hand. She answered with a question - "Where will all the negative energies go?"

No rhetoric, no moral sermons, no long preaching with platitudes and ifs or buts, she was just direct and to the point - 'Where will all the negative energies go?' indeed.

The universe is a play of energies, we know that. Everything that we see around us is a manifestation of energy. There is a theory that the sum total of the energy in the universe is zero. It means that the positive and negative energies are equal and cancel each other out completely. Now, whether this is true or not is a a matter of debate. What we do know is that there are different types of energies in the universe.

For the universe, these are opposing types of energies. In our realm of human existence, these energies manifest as positive and negative, good people and bad people, right and wrong, desirable and undesirable, heroes and villains, joy and sorrow and every other opposing pair that we broadly categorize as 'good' and 'bad'. And this is what gives us good days and bad days.

What does this mean for us?  It means that no matter what we do, there will be good days and bad days in life. It also means that for some people, there will be more good days than bad days (we call it unfair) and for some people there will be more bad days than good days (we call it unfair too). The sum total of these good and bad days is what we call LIFE.

But, don't we know it already?

Well, of course we do. But like so many things that we know, the tough part is to accept it and make peace with it.

Am I suggesting that we stop trying to make our days good? No I am not.

All I am saying is, in spite of our best efforts, all our days will not be good. There will be good times and bad times. There will be success and failure. There will be entertaining days and boring days.

The only thing that we can control is our efforts. Do it and accept that the return on these efforts may not always be as desired.

In other words, we should do our work, give our best and continue to live our life. A life that is made of good days and bad days.
